What these guides are for
Each of these started life as a question asked often enough on surveys that writing it down properly became the efficient answer. They are not summaries of service-public.fr, and they are not here to rank for the sake of ranking.
Two kinds of statement appear in them, and telling them apart matters. Some describe French or EU rules, in which case the guide says so and names the authority that owns the rule — verify those before you act on them, because they change and because we move furniture rather than give legal advice. The rest describe how we work, which is simply a description of the job.
Each guide shows when it was last reviewed. Read one long after that date and the regulatory half should be treated as a starting point: check it against the douanes, service-public.fr or your consulate before building a plan on it.
